Microsoft Corp. MSFT abruptly halted the development roadmap for the now-defunct game Redfall.

According to IGN sources, Arkane Austin was actively working on DLC, including new content and an offline mode for May, until recently.

The cancellation of the Hero Pass content, set to introduce two new characters, came as a surprise, especially considering it was scheduled for release close to Halloween.

In an email to staff, Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty attributed the cuts to a “reprioritization of titles and resources.”

Concerns now arise about the game’s future playability, especially regarding its always-online requirement. Despite promises of an offline mode from Arkane Austin, it never materialized, further disappointing players.

The cancellation of updates, including the promised offline mode, exacerbates the game’s troubled history, marked by criticism for its lackluster launch and subsequent patches.

Redfall’s struggles have been emblematic of Xbox’s challenges, with executives acknowledging its weak release. Despite assurances from Bethesda’s Pete Hines about the game’s future, it failed to recover from its initial reception.

The slow rollout of patches and the absence of highly requested features like an offline mode further compounded players’ frustrations.
