Sony Corp (ADR) SNE's entrance into the cord-cutting movement is continuing its roll-out this week as the company's PlayStation Vue streaming service is now available nationwide.
On Monday, Sony added 203 markets to the original list of seven, but there's still a twist. Only that core seven (NYC, LA, Chicago, Philadelphia, Dallas, San Francisco and Miami) will come with local channels.
For those in the new 200+ cities, they'll have access to ABC, Fox and NBC programming, but via an on-demand option the next day. CBS content is still being negotiated, but could come in "select markets at a later date" per Sony.
Right now, customers across the board have multiple skinny bundles ranging from $29.99 a month to $44.99 a month with options for extra standalone channels including Showtime and Machinima for more money. The cost also includes a cloud-based DVR that provides more space than traditional DVRs.
Vue can be accessed through PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 gaming consoles as well as through Amazon Fire TV, Fire TV Stick, Chromecast and current iPads/iPhones.
