  • Bezos is worth $125.9 billion — next to Mark Zuckerberg, who is worth $74.9 billion.

Some elements of this story were previously reported by Benzinga and it has been updated.

Jeff Bezos, founder of e-commerce giant Amazon.com Inc AMZN and several other ventures, has raked in an extraordinary amount of wealth over the years. In fact, Bezos' fortune is so colossal that he could singlehandedly cover the rental expenses of all households in the U.S. for one month and still be left with an additional $10.58 billion more than Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Meta Platforms Inc META.

Wait, what? Coming in as the third richest person in the world, according to Forbes, Bezos is worth $125.9 billion — next to Zuckerberg, who is worth $74.9 billion.

What about the rent? Roughly 44 million Americans rent, and they pay over $40.41 billion per month, according to January 2023 data from The Zebra.

While Bezos wouldn't be able to pay for Americans' rent for the entire year, he would be able to pay the $40.41 billion for one month and still have $85.48 billion left over — or $10.58 billion more than Zuckerberg is worth right now.

Did Zuckerberg lose wealth this year?

According to Forbes' Billionaire Index, Zuckerberg's net worth has fluctuated wildly over the last six months, as investors ping-pong sentiment about the future trajectory of Facebook's parent company, Meta.

The 38-year-old's 13.5% ownership stake in the business he founded, or roughly 367 million shares of Meta, has given him a net worth of about $43.5 billion.

The company is up against growing opposition from sites like TikTok and criticism over its investment in the Metaverse, a virtual world that Zuckerberg has predicted is the internet's future.
