Additionally, the DOJ alleged that Ver<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/24/05/38594967/bitcoin-jesus-roger-ver-charged-with-tax-fraud-how-much-does-he-owe-from-his-bitcoin-gains"> avoided a tax liability of about $50 million</a> on Bitcoin sales of $240 million in 2017, even though he was not a U.S. citizen.
In the motion to dismiss, Ver&#8217;s legal team argued that the &#8220;exit tax&#8221; obligation is unconstitutional, as it ignores constitutional protections for American citizens looking to expatriate.
Ver was an early investor in Bitcoin and Bitcoin-related startups like Bitcoin.com and blockchain.com.
