Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy asked MicroStrategy Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MSTR#NASDAQ">MSTR</a>) Chairman Michael Saylor in a recent interview to explain Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) to him in a way that he can understand. This was after Portnoy recently said he sold his Bitcoin after the Winklevoss twins confused <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/24/12/42361200/dave-portnoy-blames-winklevoss-twins-for-confusing-him-into-selling-bitcoin-too-early">him back in 2020.</a>
What Happened: When it comes to Bitcoin history and education, Saylor is one of the most popular names and one of <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/24/12/42391481/microstrategy-acquires-21b-worth-of-bitcoin-total-holdings-now-exceed-423000-btc">the largest holders</a> thanks to the balance sheet strategy of MicroStrategy, the software company he co-founded.
"I want to know what I got wrong about Bitcoin," Portnoy <a href="https://x.com/barstoolsports/status/1866130194534203851">asked </a>Saylor during a recent interview.
Saylor shared several sports metaphors to help explain Bitcoin and its future to Portnoy.
"There's some games you can't play, but can watch," Saylor said.
Saylor said there are some games you can't play, like if a team you watch in person wins a bunch, the season tickets might get more expensive. Some games you can play, but they might be rigged like casino games being in favor of the house, Saylor added.
"Satoshi created a game that is rigged in favor of the individual. Satoshi gave us a game we can all win. Bitcoin is that game," Saylor said of the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin.
Saylor said with Bitcoin you could be winning the game over time. He then dropped an analogy of playing alongside two of the greatest NBA players of all time.
"Wouldn't it be great if you had a basketball team, you had LeBron James, you had Michael Jordan, you had the digital version of them and they play forever. You can get on the court and play with them."
Saylor said that James and Jordan might score 100 points and you might score only two, but you're "getting rich together." &nbsp;
"Everyone gets to play. You don't just win the game, you get wealthy while you win the game."

Why It's Important: Portnoy recently said he bought $2 million worth of Bitcoin at $11,000 per coin, before selling the crypto after holding a discussion with Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss.
"I've been chasing it ever since. Dave is sad," Portnoy tweeted recently.
Asking Saylor the question and listening to the sports analogies could help Portnoy and others understand the game of cryptocurrency.
Saylor has a long-standing strategy of continuing to buy Bitcoin no matter the price. On Monday, it was revealed MicroStrategy<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/24/12/42391481/microstrategy-acquires-21b-worth-of-bitcoin-total-holdings-now-exceed-423000-btc"> purchased 21,550 Bitcoin </a>for $2.1 billion in the first week of December.
MicroStrategy now owns 423,650 Bitcoin worth an estimated $42 billion.
"We have a simple strategy and our strategy is we just acquire Bitcoin, and we hold the Bitcoin," Saylor told Benzinga<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/22/06/27865236/exclusive-michael-saylors-microstrategy-is-married-to-bitcoin-everything-else-in-the-world"> in a previous interview.</a>
Saylor said investors focus on scarce and desirable investments.
"And of course we happen to think that Bitcoin is the highest-quality scarce desirable property."
Saylor told Benzinga that Bitcoin is the "highest-quality, best asset in the world" at the time.
"Everything else in the world is inferior to Bitcoin. So, if you give me $1 million and said what do you want to buy, I don't want to buy a sports tea, I don't want to buy a building, I don't want to buy a company … all I want to buy is Bitcoin."

Michael Saylor Uses LeBron James, Michael Jordan Sports Analogy To Explain Bitcoin To Dave Portnoy: 'Satoshi Gave Us A Game We Can All Win'

It&#8217;s no secret Macy&#8217;s Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/M#NYSE">M</a>) had <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/24/11/42166888/stock-of-the-day-accounting-fraud-at-macys">its fair share</a> of challenges in the last decade. Activist investor Barington Capital issued a press release on Monday urging the 166-year-old department store company to focus on its real estate portfolio while repurchasing shares.
The Press Release: Barington and Thor Equities&#8217;s letter <a href="https://img1.wsimg.com/blobby/go/23431eee-32b7-41bf-b572-6a3046271716/downloads/91b86c05-ef62-4e67-bab1-953e566d224c/Macy_s%2C%20Inc.%20-%20Press%20Release%20-%20December%209%2C%20202.pdf?ver=1733745550886">asks</a> Macy&#8217;s to form a separate real estate subsidiary to &#8220;optimize the value&#8221; of its holdings.
Barington and Thor estimate Macy&#8217;s real estate to be worth between $5 billion and $9 billion. The current market capitalization of the company is $4.64 billion.
&#8220;We invested in Macy's because we believe the shares are mispriced relative to the upside potential we see in management's new strategic plan and the compelling value of the Company's owned real estate assets,&#8221; Barington chairman James Mitarotonda said. &#8220;However, we are concerned with Macy's large capital expenditure programs.&#8221;
Mitarotonda says Macy&#8217;s should use its excess cash to return capital to shareholders instead of capital expenditures.
Why it Matters: Barington owns 650,000 shares of Macy&#8217;s according to its most recent 13F filing, representing around 10% of its portfolio. Macy&#8217;s has over 270 million shares outstanding.
Many analysts and shareholders have identified the New York-based company&#8217;s value to be derived mostly from <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/m-a/23/12/36169920/investor-group-pitches-5-8-billion-acquisition-proposal-for-macys">the underlying value</a> of its valuable real estate. Macy&#8217;s is commonly seen as a buy-out candidate for its real estate assets.
The department store operating model has struggled in recent years as e-commerce has risen in popularity.
Competitor Kohls Corp (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/KSS#NYSE">KSS</a>) has faced similar pressure to focus on the value of its real estate. The board of directors of the Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin-based company rejected a $53-per-share takeover bid in 2022. Its shares are now trading at $15.26, down nearly 50% since rejecting the offer.

Activist Investor Urges Macy's To Rethink Strategy, Prioritize Shareholder Returns

The Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS) introduced "Music is the Bridge," a new campaign that combines artist-curated playlists with free <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/psychedelics">psychedelic education. </a>
Starting Monday, the project aims to make psychedelic experiences safer, more accessible and more meaningful.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Playlists From Artists And Organizations</h3>
The campaign includes playlists from artists and organizations like Lil Yachty, Melissa Etheridge, Brandon Boyd, Reggie Watts, CloZee, Boreta, Superposition, Good Trip Studios, East Forest, Dr. Bronner's as well as MAPS founder and president Rick Doblin aka "DJ Doblin."

"Music is medicine. This is something that cultures around the world have long known,&#8221; said Etheridge in a press release. &#8220;And in combination with plant medicines or psychedelics, they amplify one another, opening up a powerful journey to feel deeply and find truths."
GRAMMY-nominated Lil Yachty added, "Whenever I take a trip, I often spend the end of it reflecting and integrating my experiences—trying to understand why certain things are happening, what I'm doing well, and whether there's anything I could be doing differently."
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Lead Singer Of Incubus</h3>
"Music and psychedelics have a partnership, a commingling that stretches back into prehistory," said Brandon Boyd of Incubus. "We could almost suggest that one wouldn't exist without the other in certain creative circles. I know with great certainty that psychedelics, predominantly psilocybin, have been deeply impactful to me in my experience as a younger man but also as I continue my creative pursuits as an adult. They are like a gift from God put here to offer access to other worlds, and a happy byproduct of that "access" is the music we hear along the way." Boreta, formerly of Glitch Mob, added: &#8220;My relationship with music and life is shaped by psychedelics, which have revealed the transformative power of sound and helped me connect with something larger than us all.&#8221;
<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cannabis/24/09/40823224/multidisciplinary-association-for-psychedelic-studies-eyes-state-level-legalization-after-fda-de">MAPS</a> plans to release new playlists each month as part of the campaign.

In addition to the playlists, MAPS is offering a free course &#8220;Psychedelic Fundamentals,&#8221; which covers the basics of history, science, therapeutic uses and safety.
Normally priced at $29, the course takes only a few hours to complete. It provides key information for safe exploration, with a broad overview of the most interesting and important aspects of psychedelic history, science, clinical research, therapeutic uses and harm reduction.
Participants also get the MAPS Integration Station workbook, which helps them process and learn from their psychedelic experiences.

What To Know: The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, alleges infringement of JinkoSolar's proprietary N-type TOPCon technology patents.
JinkoSolar, one of the world's leading solar module manufacturers, has an extensive intellectual property portfolio with over 2,800 patents, including 462 related to its TOPCon technology. The company emphasizes its commitment to protecting its innovations, which are a result of significant investments in research and development.
The lawsuit underscores JinkoSolar&#8217;s efforts to defend its position in the solar module market against competitors selling products that allegedly violate its patents. The company&#8217;s legal representation has stated that JinkoSolar intends to vigorously pursue its claims.
&#8220;JinkoSolar has earned its leadership position in the global solar module market through significant R&amp;D investments and will vigorously defend its intellectual property against those who sell infringing products,&#8221; said&nbsp;Louise Lu, a patent litigation lawyer with the Perkins Coie law firm.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Overcoming A 44%+ Drop In A Top Stock</h2>
We&#8217;ve done well with Super Micro Computer (SMCI) recently, buying it at $21.86 last month (&#8220;<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/24/11/42052075/turning-bullish-on-supermicro">Turning Bullish On Supermicro</a>&#8220;), and seeing the stock more than double since.

But SMCI was in some of our hedged portfolios created six months ago, and it dropped more than 44% over that time frame.&nbsp;
Here&#8217;s a look at one of those portfolios, and how hedging and security selection enabled it to still smoke the S&amp;P 500.&nbsp;
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Our Hedged Portfolio From June 6th, 2024</h2>
This was the hedged portfolio our system created on June 6th, for an investor with $3,000,000 to put to work who didn&#8217;t want to risk a decline of more than 30% over the next six months. Our system started by dividing the money in seven equal parts, and allocating it to&nbsp;Abercrombie &amp; Fitch Co.&nbsp;(NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ANF#NYSE">ANF</a>),&nbsp;Century Aluminum Co.&nbsp;(NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CENX#NASDAQ">CENX</a>)&nbsp;Dell Technologies&nbsp;(NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DELL#NYSE">DELL</a>),&nbsp;Comfort Systems USA, Inc.&nbsp;(NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/FIX#NYSE">FIX</a>),&nbsp;Powell Industries, Inc.&nbsp;(NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/POWL#NASDAQ">POWL</a>), and&nbsp;Semtech Corp.&nbsp;(NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SMTC#NASDAQ">SMTC</a>), in addition to&nbsp;Super Micro Computer Inc.&nbsp;(NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SMCI#NASDAQ">SMCI</a>).&nbsp;

Next, it rounded down those seven dollar amounts to round lots of each of those names and their optimal hedges. Then it swept most of the leftover cash from that process into a tightly collared position in MicroStrategy, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MSTR#NASDAQ">MSTR</a>). 
The dollar amount of the SMCI position (circled in red in the image above) at the start was $233,376 in underlying shares and $21,900 in puts for a total position value of $255,276. We&#8217;ll come back to that in a moment.&nbsp;
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How That Portfolio Performed Over The Next 6 Months</h2>
Over the next six months, our portfolio was up 30.52%, net of hedging and trading costs, while the&nbsp;SPDR S&amp;P 500 Trust&nbsp;(NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/SPY#NYSE">SPY</a>) was up 14.4%. So it more than doubled the performance of the market, despite SMCI dropping 44%.&nbsp;

You can see the ending value for the $SMCI plus its put hedge circled in red above: $202,155.30. Recall that the starting value for that position was&nbsp;$255,276. $202,155.30 represents a 20.8% drop from $255,276.&nbsp;
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How This Portfolio Beat The Market Despite SMCI&#8217;s 44% Drop&nbsp;</h2>
We mentioned two reasons above: hedging and security selection. Both are true, but there&#8217;s a bit more to it.&nbsp;
<ul>
<li>Although SMCI dropped by 44%&#8211;and its hedge was designed to protect against a &gt;30% drop&#8211;it nevertheless limited the drawdown to 20.8%. That was due to the positive hedging error inherent in our hedging algorithm.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Security selection helped overall here in picking mostly winners. POWL, for example, was up more than 73% over that six-month period.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Concentration helped here too. Since there were only 8 underlying securities in the portfolio, the 73% gain in POWL had a big impact.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Finally, knowing when to hedge with optimal puts rather than optimal collars was key. Our system has an algorithm to determine that, and since it hedged POWL with puts, we captured nearly all of its upside.&nbsp;</li>
</ul>

Today's updated results&nbsp;corresponding to the final prespecified analysis, demonstrate consistent improvement in PFS for patients treated with pirtobrutinib, with a reduction in risk of relapse, disease or death by&nbsp;46% compared to IdelaR or BR.&nbsp;
Pirtobrutinib also demonstrated clinically meaningful improvements in other secondary endpoints such as investigator-assessed PFS (median PFS: 15.3 vs. 9.2 months.

A proposal by Donald Trump to impose tariffs on products that come to the U.S. from China, Canada and Mexico could have an impact on products and their prices found in<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/24/12/42291861/trumps-tariff-plan-risks-economic-pain-for-north-america-goldman-sachs-warns"> American dollar stores.</a>
What Happened: For years, dollar stores have offered items across their aisles that cost $1 or less in many cases. That has changed over the years with dollar stores owned by Dollar Tree Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DLTR#NASDAQ">DLTR</a>) <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/earnings/21/11/24262913/is-dollar-tree-becoming-the-1-25-store-heres-what-investors-and-shoppers-should-know">raising prices to $1.25</a> to offset higher inflation.
Trump's tariff plans could mean further price hikes in Dollar Tree stores or changes to the product assortment, according to company officials.
"While the situation remains fluid and the exact nature, scope, and eventual timing of any new tariffs is not yet clear, we are prepared to act on multiple fronts," Dollar Tree Chief Operating Officer and Interim CEO Mike Creedon said on Dollar Tree's <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/apis/cloud-product/conference-call-transcripts/">recent conference call.</a>
Creedon said Dollar Tree was able to negotiate lower costs with suppliers back in 2018 and 2019 when last dealing with tariff concerns. The company also changed product specs and pack sizes along with stopping the sale of several items altogether.
"All three of those options are still at our disposal."
The Dollar Tree interim CEO also said the company is working on supply sources from alternate countries.
"We believe there is a wide range of potential actions that we can take to help mitigate additional tariffs if and when they materialize."
Creedon said the company's multi-price strategy, which includes items past the $1 and $1.25 price points, could also be a solution for the tariff plans when asked to share what the downside case to the company's earnings is due to tariffs.
"Multi-price gives us the ability to flex where we need to if a certain product becomes something that we've got to move in the market to be competitive."

Why It's Important: Plans call for 25% tariffs on products imported from Mexico and Canada and 10% tariffs on products imported from China.
Retailers who sell consumer products could see higher costs for items they sell in the store. Companies will be tasked with deciding how to maintain their pricing power from suppliers, keeping prices the same and hurting their own profit margins or passing the higher costs onto consumers.
Based on the commentary from Dollar Tree, the company plans on a combination of both trying to lower costs from suppliers and raising prices for consumers.
Similar to fighting off inflation, Dollar Tree and other retailers could also look to change product size and assortment to keep prices the same for consumers or eliminate some items that aren't as profitable and perhaps also not as in demand from consumers.
Dollar Tree <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/24/12/42314941/dollar-tree-boosts-annual-profit-outlook-as-q3-earnings-surpass-expectations-stock-jumps">reported third-quarter </a>revenue and earnings per share that beat analyst estimates along with a better outlook for the full fiscal year. The company received several <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/DLTR/analyst-ratings">price target hikes</a> from analysts after the report. 
DLTR Price Action: Dollar Tree stock closed down 0.38% to $71.60 on Monday versus a 52-week trading range of $60.49 to $151.22. Dollar Tree stock is down 50% year-to-date in 2024.
