NEW YORK, Nov. 28, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Greenwich Jewelers has announced that it will partner with members of the jewelry industry to create an online charity auction benefitting Waves for Water's Hurricane Sandy Relief Initiative.

With a storefront in lower Manhattan and customers from all over the tri-state area, Greenwich Jewelers' owners felt compelled to help following the devastation of Hurricane Sandy. "As a native New Yorker, seeing the destruction in neighborhoods like our home, the Financial District, and beachfront communities The Rockaways, Coney Island and the Jersey Shore was heartbreaking.  I found Waves for Water, a grassroots organization that's done extensive work in disaster areas around the globe and I wanted to support their Hurricane Sandy Relief Initiative," Jennifer Gandia, owner of Greenwich Jewelers, said. Waves for Water has committed long term, hands on support, resources and funding for the rebuilding of the beach communities of NY & NJ via this initiative.
Gandia began by requesting donations from jewelers across the country to put together an online auction, from which 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Waves for Water.  "I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly the jewelry industry came together for the cause of re-building our city and helping those in need," Gandia said.  With over 90 donations from independent designers and international brands including Aaron Basha, Alexis Bittar, Baume et Mercier, Charriol, Gurhan, Jemma Wynne, Kara Ross, Melissa Joy Manning, Temple St. Clair & Todd Reed, Sparkle for Sandy Relief provides a vehicle for donors to get involved and jewelry lovers to bid on many one of a kind and specially chosen jewels for an important, timely cause.
