MIRAMAR, Fla., Nov. 5, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Spirit Airlines sent a dedicated aircraft to New York City with utility experts to aid in restoring power to the region devastated by Hurricane Sandy.

Spirit sent the aid flight from its hometown of Fort Lauderdale to Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport to pick up a plane full of utility professionals from SRP (Salt River Project), one of Arizona's largest utilities. The flight landed at New York's LaGuardia Airport on Friday evening.

"Our hearts go out to everyone affected by Hurricane Sandy. We want to do whatever we can to help bring aid to our friends and neighbors throughout the New York City area and surrounding regions during this challenging time," said Spirit's Chief Operating Officer Tony Lefebvre. "Less than 24 hours after receiving the call from SRP, we mobilized resources and made an aircraft available to get a team of SRP's professionals to New York."
