Former Erie County DPW Commissioner Gerard J. Sentz, P.E., Joins T.Y. Lin International

T.Y. Lin International (TYLI), a globally recognized full-service architecture and engineering firm, announces former Erie County Department of Public Works (DPW) Commissioner Gerard J. Sentz, P.E., has joined the firm's Buffalo, New York office as Associate Vice President/Unit Manager. Sentz has nearly 30 years of engineering experience including 11 years working for Erie County and 18 years in consulting engineering. In his new position, Sentz will lead the expansion of T.Y. Lin International's staff and services in the greater Buffalo area.

During his tenure as Commissioner/Deputy Commissioner of Erie County DPW, Sentz managed a staff of more than 175 individuals in the Division of Highways consisting of five districts which covered more than 2,450 miles of County roads. He implemented energy conservation projects and led a utility aggregation for the County which went on to serve as a model across New York State (NYS) for the NYS Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). He was responsible for Erie County's Division of Fleet, the Erie County Mailroom services, the Division of Buildings and Grounds, and the Division of Real Estate and Asset Management. Sentz has been appointed to multiple Emergency Response positions; he responded to and worked on several Federal disasters including the October 2006 Storm and the crash of Continental Flight 3407 in Clarence, NY in February 2009.

Additional highlights of Sentz's well-respected career include co-authoring the original document that formed the Bi-National Summit on transportation between Canada and the United States, reducing fuel usage in the County's fleet by 10%, developing Erie County's award-winning “Peak Load Reduction Program,” and ensuring Erie County received full reimbursement (over $50 million) for the October 2006 Storm.

Sentz is a licensed professional engineer in New York and Ohio, and holds both Master and Bachelor of Science Degrees in Civil Engineering. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, National Society of Professional Engineers, and the American Public Works Association.
