KIRKLAND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Hipcricket, an Augme Technologies, Inc. company AUGT, today announced that the American Cancer Society will conduct a nationwide mobile rollout for its 2011-2012 Relay for Life® season. After the successful completion of a pilot program earlier this year, the Society will expand its use of Hipcricket's cloud-based mobile marketing platform to enable localized communication and information-sharing for more than 5,000 individual communities of participants, volunteers and donors.

Each regional event will feature its own keyword and short code, which will be included in all promotional and informational campaign materials. Event participants can opt-in to receive this information leading up to their local event, including important dates, activities and fundraising updates. Messages will also be delivered during the Relay for Life® event to keep teams apprised of special laps, dedications and other happenings related to their specific activities.

“We view technology as a tool that enables people to communicate at the right place and at the right time,” said Miles Orkin, national director for Web and mobile at the American Cancer Society. “By using Hipcricket's platform, we are able to send important information and engage with all our supporters and constituents in a way that is meaningful to them. For us, mobile is more than a fundraising tool – it has become an integral part of our multichannel communications strategy.”

The rollout of the national Relay for Life® mobile campaign represents the most recent example of the Society's multifaceted mobile communications initiatives. The organization recently launched a new mobile companion to its Cancer.org website that serves as a new information platform for cancer patients, their families and friends.

Eric Harber, chief operating officer of Hipcricket, commented, “We consider our work with the American Cancer Society a superb example of how organizations can leverage various mobile strategies in a very systematic way to both inform and interact with their audiences. We are honored to support, in this sophisticated and important manner, the Society's annual Relay for Life® community celebrations.”
