VANCOUVER, British Columbia & BERLIN--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Strangeloop, a leading provider of web content optimization (WCO) solutions, today announced the infusion of $10 million in Series B funding from a private investment group.

The funding comes on the heels of the introduction of the Strangeloop Mobile Site Optimizer, the first website acceleration solution designed from the ground up to meet the specific needs of mobile users. Mobile Site Optimizer is the latest in a series of industry firsts for Strangeloop. The company was first to offer advanced web content optimization (also known as front-end optimization) via the cloud in its flagship desktop Site Optimizer. Strangeloop was also first to integrate Google's SPDY protocol into its products.

“Strangeloop is growing 200% quarter over quarter as customers like eBay/PayPal, Visa, and Travelocity have embraced the fact that front-end optimization is the future of website acceleration,” said Jonathan Bixby, CEO of Strangeloop. “This investment will allow us to develop new products and features that will continue to keep our customers at the forefront of mobile and desktop acceleration. We'll also be expanding our global reach, so that we can better serve the huge market demand we're experiencing in Europe, Latin America, and Asia.”

“Strangeloop has developed the only suite of patented front-end performance solutions that enables organizations to accelerate their websites and enterprise applications at massive scale,” said Martin Semler, spokesperson for the private investment group. “Strangeloop accelerates the world's largest businesses, seamlessly and flawlessly. Their solutions can be deployed easily, securely, and reliably, and their commitment to customer service is unparalleled. Having seen the new technologies that Strangeloop is developing -- to reinforce its leadership position in mobile, and to aggressively target the hybrid cloud and the growing demand for web acceleration behind the firewall -- we are fully committed to supporting the company as it moves forward.”

How Strangeloop's site optimization technology works

Strangeloop offers an easy-to-implement solution to the complex challenges of web content optimization (WCO). WCO technology takes HTML that has been optimized for readability, supportability and maintainability and, while retaining these benefits, transforms it to HTML that is optimized for fast page rendering. This involves implementing numerous best practices such as rewriting object names, re-ordering when and how objects are rendered, re-ordering when scripts are executed, and optimizing content based on the requesting browser.

In the past, this time-consuming work could only be performed manually by developers with specific performance expertise. The Strangeloop Site Optimizer and Mobile Site Optimizer – which are available as a cloud-based service, a hardware appliance, and a virtual appliance – transforms web content optimization from a lengthy and complex coding process into an automated function performed in real time by an intelligent appliance.

Companies like eBay/PayPal, Visa, Petco, and Travelocity have implemented Strangeloop solutions to speed up their websites and enterprise applications. As a result, they've achieved dramatic gains in key metrics:

  • Increased sales by 13%
  • Increased conversions by 9%
  • Increased organic search traffic by 10%
  • Improved employee productivity by 5%
