BLUFFTON, S.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

CareCore National announced that it has been selected to administer radiology benefits management services for 250,000 commercial and Medicare members of Health Alliance Plan (HAP) of Detroit, MI.

Health Alliance Plan selected CareCore to manage the utilization and quality of imaging services to ensure patients get the most effective radiological treatments and tests. This entails managing radiology benefit expenses within the parameters of quality, patient access and appropriateness of care as well as continual performance monitoring of the diagnostic imaging delivery system based on CareCore's performance standards for these procedures.

“Our evidence-based medicine program will give Health Alliance Plan members the best care at the best possible cost,” said Shelley Weiner, M.D., Chief Medical Officer, CareCore National. “Our solution ensures that health plans have a dynamic and responsive radiology program that addresses marketplace concerns and increases the quality of care to plan members.”

CareCore's radiology program covers more than 30 million member subscribers in all 50 states and is designed to improve appropriate utilization and enhance quality through prior authorization solutions that identify patient specific diagnostic imaging needs. The program manages benefits for advanced imaging studies such as magnetic resonance (MRI/MRA), computed tomography (CT), positron emission tomography (PET) nuclear medicine and nuclear cardiology.

“Diagnostic imaging can produce important health benefits, however, when used inappropriately, it poses serious quality of care and economic issues,” said Mumtaz Ibrahim, M.D., Senior Medical Director of Health Alliance Plan. “Unnecessary tests drive up costs and expose members to higher doses of harmful radiation than traditional x-rays. CareCore's management of radiological advanced imaging procedures will ensure that our members only receive tests that are medically necessary, which will reduce unnecessary exposure to radiation. Our program looks for evidence that diagnostic imaging technology will deliver better care for our members and more value for their healthcare dollars spent.”

CareCore National's contract with HAP expands its growing list of Michigan-based health plans, which currently include Health Plus, the UAW Retiree Benefits Trust and the Blue Care Network.
