Honeywell to Modernize European Pulp Manufacturer's Mill

Honeywell Process Solutions HPS, a part of Honeywell International Inc HON, recently announced plans to modernize one of the mills of Finland's Stora Enso to meet the rising demand for renewable packaging board.

Largest pulp, board and paper producer in Europe - Stora Enso will be using Honeywell's technologies as part of its up gradation at their paper mill facility in Varkaus, Finland. The upgrades to the mill will include migration of the plant from its previous control system to Honeywell's Experion PKS (Process Knowledge System). With the adoption of Honeywell's Experion PKS, the operators will be able to improve operational flexibility, take informed decisions and resolve the challenges that the mill faces. The advanced automation system by Honeywell is likely to improve the overall productivity of the plant and meet the growing demand for renewable packaging board.

The strategic move is aimed to lower costs and figure out a more cost-effective execution of production line. The  Process History Database PHD will help users to take faster decisions with superior data management and higher data security. Leveraging automation and control technologies from HPS, Stora Enso aims to modernize its mill operations to produce the highest quality paper and board products globally.
HPS already has its expertise in automation and control technologies and is considered to be one of the major suppliers of automation and control technologies in the paper industry.
