Ashland Has Expanded the Ways in Which We Combine Ingredients, Science and Technology to Get in Front of Industry Trends and Answer Our Customers' Most Complex Challenges

Consumer interest in health and wellness drives demand for ingredients like Aloe vera and probiotics. This increasing array of application and formulation challenges drive demand for specialty processing capabilities.

WILMINGTON, Del. (PRWEB) July 17, 2018

Ashland has added Aloe vera and probiotics along with increased particle engineering and specialty processing capabilities to its extensive portfolio of cellulosic products for the food, beverage and nutraceuticals industry. The company is showcasing its offering at the Institute of Food Technologists show in Chicago, July 16 – 18, 2018, booth #S4473.

"Ashland has expanded the ways in which we combine ingredients, science and technology to get in front of industry trends and answer our customers' most complex challenges," said Brian McGrath, vice president, Health and Wellness, Ashland. "During the IFT show, we're inviting visitors to meet with our team of solvers and sample two of our exciting new products – lime mint vitamin water with aloe vera and probiotic sprinkle packs."

Aloe vera
Consumers continue to seek natural products to maintain health and boost wellness. Aloe vera, rich in vitamins and minerals, also supports digestion and the immune system, making it a popular ingredient in beverages including sports drinks.

The harvesting and processing of Aloe vera occurs at Ashland's Mexico-based facilities and the ingredients and custom formulations are sold to the dietary supplement and food and beverage markets. Ashland's fields, facilities, and powders are certified organic. New technologies and processes enable novel ingredients while allowing Ashland to be a responsible, committed community partner. Process and technology enhancements include drying and dehydration technologies, methods to remove aloin to very low levels, and a greener operating footprint through the reduction of greenhouse gases, sustainable farming practices and significantly reduced water consumption.

Probiotics
More and more research has shown the many health benefits associated with a healthy microbiome. As a result, more consumers are using probiotics as a means of improving gut health. Ashland recently expanded its health and wellness portfolio to include high quality, allergen-free probiotic strains for dietary supplement applications.

Particle processing
Ashland has increased its capability in particle engineering, specialty processing, and custom formulation to bring even more value-added solutions to solve complex product development challenges. To address growing demands of the industry, Ashland now offers agglomerating, spray drying, chilsonating, instantizing, granulating, and more.

"In addition to our new ingredients and technologies, our portfolio continues to offer a wide range of cellulose gum products that modify mouthfeel in beverages and syrups, control moisture migration in bakery mixes, and provide structure to whipped toppings," said McGrath.

Benecel™ MC for gluten-free breads
With the increase in consumer adoption of 'gluten free' diets, food manufacturers are seeking solutions to deliver the taste, texture and volume people love and expect from bread, muffins, and more. Ashland's Benecel™ modified cellulose improves volume, structure, and appearance of gluten free bakery products.

Aqualon™ CMC for low- and no-sugar beverages
Low- and no-sugar beverages are becoming increasingly popular due to the focus on widespread obesity. When decreasing the amount of sugar in beverages, either through direct removal of sugar or by reduction of juice-solids content, a loss of mouthfeel (body) occurs. Aqualon™ CMC helps control beverage rheology to compensate for this loss without adding calories and provides consumers with the sensory properties and clarity they would expect from a full-sugar beverage.
