Alliance Coal Scholars Program Awards Scholarships to 15 Outstanding Graduates

Alliance Coal Scholars Program grants 15 college scholarships and five teacher recognition awards.

Alliance Resource Partners, L.P. ARLP this week announced the 15 outstanding graduating seniors receiving Alliance Coal Scholars Program scholarships. In addition, the top-ranked students selected five teachers for the program's teacher recognition awards.

The top five seniors are granted renewable $2,000 scholarships. The next ten highest-ranking candidates receive $1,000 scholarships. Since the program was founded in 1996, $382,500 has been awarded in scholarships to 205 students. An additional $37,000 has been presented to their teachers.

Alliance Coal Scholars are employees' sons and daughters pursuing postsecondary education in college and vocational school programs. The program recognizes not only their academic achievements but also their contributions to the community and leadership in school activities.

The top five students, awarded $2,000 renewable scholarships are:

Kourtney Ashby, graduate of Madisonville North Hopkins High School in Madisonville, Kentucky, daughter of Lanny Ashby, employed by Webster County Coal, LLC near Providence, Kentucky. Kourtney will pursue Medical studies at Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky.

Victoria Bond, graduate of Henry Clay High School in Lexington, Kentucky, daughter of Aaron Bond, employed by Alliance Coal, LLC in Lexington, Kentucky. Victoria will major in Philosophy at Boston University in Boston, Massachusetts.

Nathan Burke, graduate of Mount Vernon Senior High School in Mount Vernon, Indiana, son of Michael Burke, employed by Gibson County Coal, LLC near Princeton, Indiana. Nathan will study Mechanical Engineering at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Kassidy Luttrell, graduate of Union County High School in Morganfield, Kentucky, daughter of Scotty Luttrell, employed by River View Coal, LLC in Morganfield, Kentucky. Kassidy will major in Pre-Dentistry at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Grace Vandiver, graduate of Red Hill High School in Bridgeport, Illinois, daughter of Dennis Vandiver, employed by Gibson County Coal, LLC in Owensville, Indiana. Grace will study Dermatology at Rockford University in Rockford, Illinois.

The scholars receiving $1,000 awards are:

Mason Anderson, graduate of Wheeling Park High School in Wheeling, West Virginia, son of Eric Anderson, employed by Tunnel Ridge, LLC in Triadelphia, West Virginia. Mason will study Civil Engineering at West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia.

Alexis Burow, graduate of Northern Garrett High School in Accident, Maryland, daughter of William Burow, employed by Mettiki Coal, LLC in Davis, West Virginia. Alexis will study Biomedical Engineering at West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia.

Keelie Carter, graduate of Madisonville North Hopkins High School in Madisonville, Kentucky, daughter of Merle Carter, employed by Webster County Coal, LLC in Clay, Kentucky. Keelie will study in Biosystems Engineering at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky.

Baili Diefenbach, graduate of Benton Consolidated High School in Benton, Illinois, daughter of William Diefenbach, employed by Hamilton County Coal, LLC in McLeansboro, Illinois. Baili will study Music Education at Rend Lake College in Ina, Illinois.

Nolen Funkhouser, graduate of Grayville High School in Grayville, Illinois, son of Bradley Funkhouser, employed by Gibson County Coal, LLC in Owensville, Indiana. Nolen will study Biological Sciences at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in Edwardsville, Illinois.

Natalie Howard, graduate of Carmi-White County High School in Carmi, Illinois, daughter of Phillip Howard, employed by Hamilton County Coal, LLC in Dahlgren, Illinois. Natalie will major in Molecular Biology at Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky.

Breona Owen, graduate of Carmi-White County High School in Carmi, Illinois, daughter of Patrick Owen, employed by Gibson County Coal, LLC in Owensville, Indiana. Breona will study Nursing at the University of Southern Indiana in Evansville, Indiana.

Allie Posey, graduate of Boonville High School in Boonville, Indiana, daughter of Neil Posey, employed by Matrix Design Group, LLC in Newburgh, Indiana. Allie will major in Education Administration at Indiana University Bloomington in Bloomington, Indiana.

Caden Prowse, graduate of Hopkins County Central High School in Madisonville, Kentucky, son of Darren Prowse, employed by Warrior Coal, LLC in Hanson, Kentucky. Caden will study Welding at the Hobart Institute of Welding Technology in Troy, Ohio.

Austin Spears, graduate of North Posey High School in Poseyville, Indiana, son of John Spears, employed by Gibson County Coal, LLC in Owensville, Indiana. Austin will study Agriculture Technology at Wabash Valley College in Mount Carmel, Illinois.

The Alliance Coal Scholars Program supports excellence in teaching through its Alliance Coal Teacher Achievement Awards. Each of the top five scholarship recipients selects an elementary, junior-high, or senior-high teacher for the $500 award.
