Can Artificial Intelligence Prevent the Next School Shooting?

Parkland students, Head of School in CO, an AI expert and crisis team from Virginia Tech shooting to discuss cutting-edge program using AI to stop the next Parkland, moderated by former ABC News White House Correspondent Ann Compton; Event to take place May 10th at National Press Club

WASHINGTON, DC / ACCESSWIRE / May 8, 2018 / The tragedy at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School that occurred on February 14, 2018, united Americans in a way that seemed unprecedented among the myriad of school shootings that preceded it. Millions were captivated by the students' message and their willingness to stand up to politicians while organizing for change.

Yet the need for programs and procedures that would detect student behaviors of concern well before there's an escalation or active shooter event, seemed absent from the debate. When a student telegraphs intentions on social media to shoot up their school, the question is: who's listening? And who's doing something about it?

On Thursday, May 10, students and educators impacted by school violence will join experts from the fields of mental health, technology and behavioral risk management to discuss a new program called First Look/Last StandTM that leverages artificial intelligence, combined with a school behavioral assessment team, to identify and screen behaviors of concern in real time. Designed by the crisis management team that led support after the 2007 Virginia Tech shootings, First Look programs in schools have successfully identified and intervened in potentially dangerous scenarios before they escalate.

The panel will include: the Head of Fountain Valley School, Colorado, William Webb; students from Parkland, Florida; Mina Lux, Founder of Meelo Logic, Inc.; Brenda Truelove, College of Continuing Studies, University of Alabama; Suzanne Loughlin, EVP of Novume Solutions; and Hart Brown, COO of Firestorm Solutions.
