Insight School of Washington Begins 2017-18 School Year

Students Return to Online Public School on Sept. 5

Students at Insight School of Washington (ISWA), a full-time online public school, begin their 2017-18 school year on Sept. 5, simply by turning on their computers. ISWA, a program of the Quillayute Valley School District, provides the opportunity for students in grades 9-12 across the state to get back on track academically.

Beginning its 12th year of operation, ISWA provides every student with an Individualized Learning Plan (ILP), which is informed by teachers who work with students to make sure the lesson plans are based on the student's needs and the progress the student has made to date, as well as the student's personal interests and college and career aspirations.

"In today's world, it's never been more important to graduate high school," said Andrea Teske, an English teacher at Insight School of Washington. "I'm proud to be part of a team of teachers at ISWA that is dedicated to helping each of our students reach their full academic potential."

The rigorous and engaging curriculum offered by ISWA includes courses in English/language arts, math, science, history, world languages, art and music, as well as elective courses. State-certified teachers provide instruction, guidance and support, interacting with students and parents via email, web-based classrooms, online discussions, phone and face-to-face meetings.

Additionally, qualifying students have the opportunity to enroll in college courses tuition-free through the Running Start Program, offered by their local community college, which allows them to earn credits toward both a high school diploma and college degree.

ISWA offers a Social-Emotional Learning component called "The Seven Mindsets" through a homeroom advisory model tailored to provide students with the encouragement, strategies and confidence to become successful young adults. Moreover, the school provides opportunities for credit recovery, which enables students to concentrate on courses in a condensed schedule (typically a nine-week period) to help students get back on track and graduate high school on time.

ISWA is still accepting enrollments for this fall. For more information, please visit http://wa.insightschools.net.

Andrea Teske is available to take media members "behind the scenes" to demonstrate how online learning works.
