A Peek Into The Markets: U.S. Stock Futures Edge Lower On Election Day

 

Pre-open movers

U.S. stock futures traded slightly lower in early pre-market trade. Chicago Fed President Charles Evans is set to speak at the Council of Foreign Relations, in New York at 7:45 a.m. ET. The Labor Department's JOLTS report for September will be released at 10:00 a.m. ET. Chicago Fed President Charles Evans is set to speak at the UBS Knowledge Network event "Luncheon Discussion with Charles Evans" in New York at 12:20 p.m. ET.

Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 18 points to 18,181.00, while the Standard & Poor’s 500 index futures slipped 3.75 points to 2,126.25. Futures for the Nasdaq 100 index declined 7.50 points to 4,770.00.

Oil prices traded higher as Brent crude futures declined 0.39 percent to trade at $45.97 per barrel, while US WTI crude futures also fell 0.47 percent to trade at $44.68 a barrel.


A Peek Into Global Markets

European markets were mixed today, with the Spanish Ibex Index dropping 0.41 percent, STOXX Europe 600 Index rising 0.01 percent and German DAX 30 index declining 0.19 percent. The UK's FTSE index was trading higher by 0.14 percent, while French CAC 40 Index slipped 0.09 percent.

In Asian markets, Japan’s Nikkei Stock Average fell 0.03 percent, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index gained 0.47 percent, China’s Shanghai Composite Index gained 0.46 percent and India’s BSE Sensex rose 0.48 percent.


Broker Recommendation

Analysts at Citigroup downgraded Goldman Sachs Group Inc GS from Buy to Neutral.

Goldman Sachs shares fell 0.54 percent to $180.50 in pre-market trading.
