JetBlue-Backed JSX Places Order For Hybrid-Electric Aircraft, Aims To Serve 2000 Airports

JetBlue Airways-backed JBLU Air carrier JSX has ordered up to 332 hybrid-electric aircraft, setting the stage for a revolutionary change in air travel.

What Happened: JSX has ordered up to 332 hybrid-electric aircraft spread across three different models and manufacturers. The company will start taking deliveries for the said aircraft starting 2028, it said in a statement.

The order comprises the Heart Aerospace ES-30, a 30-seat aircraft designed by a Swedish manufacturer, and the French-made 19-seater Aura Aero Era.

It also includes up to 82 orders for the Electra eSTOL aircraft which the company says can take off from parking lots. The eSTOL aircraft can seat nine individuals and its manufacturer is based in Virginia.

While the order for 132 of these aircraft is confirmed, the remaining are options.

Why It Matters: JSX is a public charter carrier founded by Alex Wilcox, the founding executive of JetBlue

The company currently deploys Embraer aircraft which depart from private jet terminals. The company expects to serve over 2000 airports with the new order while reducing travel costs and carbon emissions.
