This Is The Must-Have Trait If You Want To Join Apple, According To CEO Tim Cook

Zinger Key Points
  • Apple CEO Tim Cook spilled the beans on the secret to landing a job at Apple.
  • Cook spoke to singer Dua Lipa on her podcast and spoke at length about Apple’s succession plans and also his favorite books.

If you want to join Apple Inc. AAPL, then you should know that the company's CEO Tim Cook is looking for a very simple human trait that has nothing to do with engineering, coding or anything technology related.

What Happened: In his interaction with singer Dua Lipa, Cook revealed the must-have trait for people who want to join Apple.

Cook believes in the philosophy that says "one plus one equals three". While the math might seem bad, Cook thinks working for Apple should result in something greater than the sum of the parts.

"It’s an incredible feeling to work with people that bring out the best in you, and fundamentally, we all believe that one plus one equals three," he told Lipa.

"Your idea plus my idea is better than the individual ideas on their own," he added, explaining his logic train.

Cook says Apple's doors are open to anyone with the ethos the company looks for in its workforce. And yes, even college dropouts and those who don't know coding are welcome at the most valuable company in the world by market capitalization.

The Secret To Landing A Job At Apple

So, what's the secret to landing a job at Apple? It's simple, like most good things in life.

"I think one of the characteristics that I look for in people is collaboration. Can they really collaborate? Do they deeply believe that 1 plus 1 equals three?" he said.

Apple's philosophy as a company was tested during the COVID-19 pandemic that forced employees to work remotely. It was amongst the first few companies requiring employees to return to work once it was clear that the pandemic was behind us.

Back then, too, Cook spoke about collaboration in a memo sent to employees. He said he wanted to preserve the "in-person collaboration that is so essential to our culture."

"Is there a strong collaborative spirit among employees? Do they truly embrace the concept that the combined efforts of individuals result in greater collective success?" Cook told Lipa.
