Ford CEO Jim Farley Praises Innovative Transit Custom Van's Steering Wheel: 'Backbone Of Business!'

Ford Motor Co F CEO, Jim Farley, took a moment on Wednesday to commend the company’s engineers for their innovative design of the new Transit Custom van.

What Happened: Resharing a video clip posted by an X user, Farley praised Ford engineers for their work on the Transit Custom van’s steering wheel, calling it the “Backbone of Business!”

The new Transit Custom van’s steering wheel rim has a unique feature: it can flip from its standard driving position to serve as a makeshift eating table or a laptop desk.

Drivers can flip it 45 degrees to create a laptop desk or 90 degrees to form a nearly horizontal table, making it ideal for professionals who spend long hours on the road and need to work on the go.

To prevent food or laptops from sliding off the wheel, a removable plastic tray can be placed on top. When not in use, the tray can be conveniently stored in a slot between the front seats.

The Transit Custom van is not available in the United States.

Online Reactions: The innovative feature sparked various reactions from X users. Some were amazed and curious about when this feature might be available in other Ford vehicles, such as the F-150 Lightning. Others considered it a gimmick, while some humorously highlighted the challenges of eating while driving.
