What Happened: Alphabet Inc.'s (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Google highlighted the new Tensor G3 chipset as one of the main highlights of the new Pixel 8 phones, but that chipset could prove to be a problem.

According to initial benchmarks posted by PBKreviews, the Pixel 8 Pro has hit temperatures of 115-degree Fahrenheit, which is nearly as hot as the iPhone 15 Pro, which touched the 118-degree Fahrenheit mark.
The Pixel 8 is just a little behind, too, touching the 113-degree Fahrenheit mark. This is despite the Tensor G3 chipset being considerably less powerful than Apple's new A17 Pro chipset.
In fact, Apple has fixed the iPhone 15 Pro overheating issue with the iOS 17.0.3 update without impacting or throttling the performance.
Lagging Behind In Performance: To make matters worse, the Tensor G3 chipset's performance seems to be closer to the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset from Qualcomm Inc. (NASDAQ:QCOM) than to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset.
For context, Qualcomm is expected to announce the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset later this year.
Apart from this, Apple's A17 Pro chipset has already shown that it is more powerful than not just the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset but also better than the upcoming Gen 3 chipset.
As such, the Tensor G3 chipset seems to be lagging behind yet again.
