What's Going On With NXP Semiconductors Stock Tuesday?

Dutch chipmaker NXP Semiconductors NV NXPI stock is trading lower on Tuesday. It recently alerted its customers about a data breach that compromised their personal information.

The data breach came to light after Troy Hunt, the owner of Have I Been Pwned, shared a copy of the email NXP sent to affected customers.

The breach seems to have impacted individuals with online NXP accounts, which provide access to technical resources and community support, TechCrunch reports.

An official statement on the NXP account benefits page assures users of account security through features like two-step authentication.

NXP spokesperson Andrea Lempart confirmed that an "unauthorized party" accessed "basic personal information" from a system linked to NXP's online portal.

This compromised data includes full names, email addresses, postal addresses, business and mobile phone numbers, company details, job titles, descriptions, and communication preferences.

Although NXP did not elaborate on the breach's specifics or the reason behind the delayed notification, the intrusion occurred on July 11, and NXP detected the same on July 14.

The spokesperson mentioned that NXP is notifying all affected users as a precautionary measure and apologizes for any inconvenience caused.

The company has also informed relevant authorities about the breach.

In the email sent to affected individuals, NXP advises caution regarding unsolicited communications requesting personal details or containing links.

This incident comes after a prior report where a security researcher identified a flaw in the Delhi Metro's smart card system, which utilizes NXP-manufactured chips.

The vulnerability exploits the top-up card's process, allowing individuals to travel on the metro system for free.

Multiple companies, ranging from Microsoft Corp MSFT to Nvidia Corp NVDA, fell prey to cybersecurity breaches.

Price Action: NXPI shares traded lower by 0.11% at $209.72 on the last check Tuesday.
