Tesla Model S Plaid's Nürburgring Lap Record Shattered: Rimac's Nevera Clocks 20 Seconds Quicker

There is a buzz in the world of electric vehicles as Rimac's Nevera EV surpassed Elon Musk‘s Tesla Inc.'s TSLA Model S Plaid’s record at the iconic Nürburgring race track in Germany.

What Happened: Croatian carmaker Rimac’s Nevera broke the previous EV production lap record by 20 seconds at the legendary test track. Croatian racing driver Martin Kodrić completed the lap in 7:05:298, breaking the record set by Tesla’s Model S Plaid Track Package in 7:25.231.

“The fact that the Nevera can achieve this kind of speed on track, when it's been developed to be a comfortable hyper GT for the road, is what makes it so special,” Kodrić said. “It's such a well-rounded piece of engineering and design; gentle and usable in the city, thrilling to drive on twisting B-roads, comfortable over long distances and devastatingly fast on a race track,” he added.

Rimac is priced at over $2 million and claims "unparallelled performance" on its website.

In April, the car won 23 performance records in a single day at the Automotive Testing Papenburg. The car also holds the title of EV with the highest verified top speed, having achieved 256 mph.

The Nevera Time Attack: Rimac also unveiled the limited-edition Nevera Time Attack on Friday at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering. Jeff Miller, the first customer, received his vehicle at the unveiling and said, “I simply cannot wait to put this car on the curvy roads and feel it pull over 200 mph on tracks.”

Rimac will produce only 12 Nevera Time Attack edition cars. All of them have already been sold out, the company said.
