Twitter's Auction Encore: How To Bid On Apple Devices, Obama Art, And Classic Blue Birds Straight From HQ

by Chris Katje Benzinga Staff Writer

Many changes have been made to social media platform Twitter since Elon Musk acquired the company for $44 billion in 2022.

Recently, Twitter, now rebranded as X, has been offloading various items from its main office. Here’s a look at what’s up for sale and how you can snag a piece of Twitter history.

What Happened: Musk's choice to rename Twitter as X garnered varied responses from analysts, investors, and the platform's users. The decision could also come with lawsuits as it was revealed that several other companies have trademarks related to the name.

Benzinga reported on a previous auction held by Twitter in January where various items from its headquarters were sold. Reports also suggested that Musk was trying to sell more items from Twitter, including the company’s plants.

Twitter has another round of items going up for auction. The auction will be led by Heritage Global Partners, a unit of Heritage Global (NASDAQ:HGBL).

Heritage has titled the auction “Twitter Rebranding: Online Auction Featuring Memorabilia, Art, Office Assets & More!” on its website.

Auction bidding will run from Sept. 12 at 10 a.m. ET through Sept. 14 at 12 p.m. ET. There are 678 lots listed on the auction website, with starting bids of $25 for each item.

Here’s a look at the highlights.

Twitter Auction Highlights: The 678 items up for sale in the latest Twitter auction range from furniture to Twitter blue bird logos.

Numerous auctions include chairs, sofas, stools, desks, lockers, video conferencing systems and work stations.

Among the other highlights include:

Twitter Essentials 24 Records And Record Player: This lot includes 24 iconic records like Michael Jackson’s “Thriller,” Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On,” Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon,” Fleetwood Mac’s “Rumors” and more and also comes with a record player. These were at one point the 24 iconic records that were regularly played at the Twitter headquarters building.

Musical Instruments: The auctions also include several acoustic guitars and a Pearl drum set. While none of the instruments are likely rare, they come with the added piece of history that they belonged to Twitter

Twitter Hashtag Signs: One of the most well-known phrases linked to Twitter remains the hashtag, which focuses on topics and trending items. Several hashtag-themed signs like a light-up version of the hashtag are up for auction

Robin Williams art tribute: One item likely to catch the eyes of bidders is a piece of art that pays tribute to actor Robin Williams. The artwork features tweets shared by others that pay tribute to Williams.

Williams appears as his likeness from the movie “Good Morning Vietnam” on the artwork, and his tweet “No matter what people tell you, words and ideas can change the world” is featured at the center of the messages.

Twitter Blue Bird Logos: Several of the iconic blue bird Twitter logos that are on the sides of the headquarters are up for auction. Bidders should note that the winners of the auction have to hire a licensed company with permits to remove the signs.

There are two blue bird logos up for auction that are still mounted to the company’s headquarters, with one located on 10th Street and another located on Jessie Street.

Twitter Blue Bird Lobby Sign: For those who can’t secure the company and permits needed to take down the blue bird logos on the side of Twitter headquarters, there is also a blue bird logo sign up for sale from the company’s lobby. The item is made with translucent plexiglass.

Ellen DeGeneres Iconic Tweet Artwork: At one time, a tweet made by Ellen DeGeneres at the 2014 Academy Awards was the most shared post on Twitter. The selfie included many celebrities from the movie awards show including Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and Kevin Spacey. Artwork by Debbie Faas recreates the iconic moment.

Obama Artwork: Another piece of artwork up for auction is a painting by Faas titled “Four More Years.” The artwork depicts Barack Obama and Michelle Obama hugging to celebrate his victory in the 2012 election.

Apple Computers: Among the 678 lots are many computers and office-related supplies. There are a total of 97 Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) computers and items up for auction, such as Apple Thunderbolt 27” display monitors, and many include standing desks as well. With starting bids of $25, the Apple products could see early interest.
