Mark Zuckerberg's ongoing "year of efficiency" campaign at Meta META, which has led to substantial cost reductions and workforce reductions, appears to have also influenced his philanthropic endeavor with his wife, Priscilla Chan.
The couple's Chan Zuckerberg Initiative implemented workforce reductions, affecting approximately 50 employees who received notices of termination on Wednesday, Insider reported.
The workforce reductions were brought to light by "The 74 Million," an education-focused website co-founded by Campbell Brown, vice president at Meta.
"Guided by insights from our grantees, research, and educators, our work in education continues to evolve, and the structure of our teams has changed as a result," CZI spokeswoman Raymonde Charles said in a statement, according to Insider.

Most of the workforce reductions on Wednesday primarily impacted CZI's education team.
Earlier in February, Meta reported fourth-quarter financial results and first-quarter guidance. Zuckerberg said in the earnings release that 2023 would be the year of efficiency for Meta Platforms, and the company laid off 6,000 workers and reduced 10,000 jobs in May.
According to Forbes, the 39-year-old Zuckerberg is worth an estimated $108.1 billion.
