Tesla Model Y Outpaces 35-Year-Old Record For Car Sales In Iceland

Tesla Inc's TSLA Model Y is smashing records in Iceland.

The electric vehicle became the most sold car in the nation this year, boasting a total of 1,316 Model Y EVs registered in the first six months of 2023.

This marks the highest number for a single car model in a year since records began.

The Model Y's impressive sales surpass the previous record held since 1988, when over 1,200 Toyota Corollas were registered in a single year, as shared by Icland Monitor

The Icelandic Transportation Authority clarified that these figures represent new car registrations each year by model and subtype, rather than direct sales numbers.

Typically, the majority of these newly registered vehicles are sold by importers. The authority also highlighted instances where individuals have imported cars for their personal use.

Regardless, Tesla's Model Y is demonstrating its popularity in Iceland, reflecting a growing trend towards electric vehicles in the country.
