Is Elon Musk Losing His Twitter Magic? Most Followed User's Engagement Nosedives

Despite a significant increase in tweets from Elon Musk since his takeover of Twitter, a new report reveals a decline in user engagement, indicating a waning interest in the billionaire’s posts on the platform.

What Happened: Since Musk became the owner of Twitter, fewer users are actively engaging with his posts on the platform, according to Business Insider, citing an analysis by Huge.

Musk’s tweeting activity on the microblogging site has substantially increased since last year. His tweet frequency has grown 10% each month compared to his pre-Twitter-owner era.

Previously, the tech billionaire used to post an average of seven original tweets per week, but now that number has surged to around 21 per week, signifying a remarkable 200% increase in his tweet volume.

According to the analysis of Musk’s tweets over the past 18 months, his original tweets currently generate approximately four million weekly engagements.

Interestingly, this is only slightly higher than the engagement levels he experienced before his involvement with Twitter last year — ranging between one to three million per week.

When the Musk-Twitter drama unfolded last year, Musk’s engagement skyrocketed to over 20 million per week. Once again, when Musk officially took over Twitter, his engagement peaked at over 10 million per week.

Simply put, despite occasional spikes in engagement, the report stated that there had been an overall decline in users’ interest in Musk’s tweets — even when he posted more frequently than ever before.

Why It’s Important: It was previously reported that Musk fired a Twitter engineer because he wasn’t happy about the impressions on his own tweets.

Earlier this year, the tech billionaire became the most followed person on Twitter, surpassing former U.S. President Barack Obama. The Twitter titan currently has 141.6 million followers on the platform.
