The smartphone was given to him by Samsung's de facto leader, Jay Y. Lee, when Gates visited him in South Korea.
Gates previously used a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 5G and visited South Korea to update his Fold 3.
The Microsoft co-founder further added that he uses Outlook and other company software on his smartphone. However, given the bigger screen size of Fold 4, he doesn't use any tablet but "just the phone and my portable PC - a Windows machine."
During the AMA session, Gates also said that his desktop PC is Windows Surface Studio and a whiteboard Surface Hub.
Clearly, no Apple Inc. AAPL products, including the latest iPhone 14 series, are on Gates' desk.
In September last year, it was reported that Apple and Samsung, two major smartphone manufacturers, together account for more than 70% of the U.S. market share.
In fact, iPhone 13 was the most popular smartphone sold in the U.S. as of April 2022 and accounted for 17% of the total sales.
