Thousands of Travelers Are Missing Luggage, and Apple AirTags Are Helping Them Get It Back

Zinger Key Points
  • Thousands of travelers were left without luggage over the holidays due to the cold weather
  • Some were able to recover them using AirTags, but for some, only after it was too late

Many airlines in America are struggling right now. From Southwest to United Airlines, pictures are surfacing around the country of thousands of travelers’ bags in a pile.

The mixup was primarily caused by a holiday wave of cold weather that left hundreds of planes grounded at connecting airports. Bags were unloaded from planes left stranded for days.

The only saving grace for many travelers turned out to be the Apple Inc. AAPL AirTags left inside their bags. Travelers used the tags to track down their bags at a specific airport or help the airlines locate them — but this was only a partial solution.

AirTags need to be within range of an iPhone to work because they are tracked through a Bluetooth connection. However, for some, it didn’t help much at all. Some users have taken to Twitter to show their luggage ending up anywhere from the middle of the sea to a dumpster behind an apartment with all of the contents already missing.

Solutions like MaxTracker allow users to track their items from an app on their phone anytime, anywhere using GPS and 5G. A lesser-known startup, MaxTracker has no distance restrictions and relies on state-of-the-art IoT electronics.

When people were hoping for an easy flight to or from family as they traveled for the holidays, it seemed like one of the worst possible outcomes happened. Many were stuck several states away without their luggage, and they might never get those bags back.
