Tesla's US Delivery Growth Unique Among Car Manufacturers

The COVID-19 pandemic has hit many industries hard, with stay-at-home orders dramatically slowing production and consumption.

The auto industry in particular has had a hard time, with both manufacturing facilities closed to workers and dealerships were closed to customers.

It appears Tesla Inc's TSLA online sales model and available inventory helped the EV maker weather the storm.

Vehicle sales for every auto manufacturer in the U.S. are worse than they were one year ago with one exception: Tesla.

The tech valued car company has grown sales 6.79% versus the first half of 2019. This is in part thanks to Tesla's model of allowing customers to purchase a vehicle online in seconds and "contactless delivery" that lets customers pick up a car and sign papers without any human interaction.

Benzinga's Take: Online shopping has become the norm in recent years, and this trend has been accelerated by the pandemic.

Some would argue Tesla was perfectly situated for this scenario. The company's normal car buying experience was unchanged, and the company's delivery experience only needed slight modifications to meet state social distancing guidelines.
