6 Companies That Do The Most To Help American Vets

It’s a big week for American pride. Americans exercised their most fundamental democratic right by voting on Tuesday and then pay tribute to the brave servicemen and servicewomen of the U.S. military on Veterans Day today.

Investors understand the duty that public companies have to their shareholders. However a number of American companies also feel a duty to pay back the debt that they owe to U.S. veterans for preserving the freedom that allows the U.S. economy to thrive.

Each November, Victory Media ranks the 100 most military-friendly U.S. companies. Here’s a look at the top six companies on the brand new 2016 list.

1. Combined Insurance Company of America

Combined Insurance, a subsidiary of Chubb Ltd. CB, is hands-down the most military-friendly company on Victory’s list. Victory also ranks Combined Insurance at the top of its list of companies that are friendly to military spouses as well. According to the company, 39 percent of new hires are military veterans.

2. Booz Allen Hamilton Holding Corporation BAH

About a third of technology engineering and consulting company Booz Allen Hamilton’s employees are veterans. The company has more than a century of history working with military clients and hiring veterans.

3. USAA

USAA makes its commitment to the military community clear with its slogan, “We know what it means to serve.” More than one out of every five new hires is a veteran, and USAA was second to only Combined Insurance in Victory’s military spouse-friendly rankings as well.

4. ManTech International Corp MANT

National security technology giant ManTech CEO George Pederson says that veterans possess a number of qualities that are rare in the job market. “We can teach skills on the job or in the classroom, but character is harder to come by,” Pederson said of veteran employees. That attitude is reflected in the fact that 44 percent of ManTech employees are veterans.

5. CSX Corporation CSX

Victory ranks CSX as the most veteran-friendly company in the transportation sector. CSX has created what it calls a “Career Crosswalk” online service for veterans. Veterans seeking employment can use the service to determine how their military training would best fit the company’s openings.

6. Union Pacific Corporation UNP

Not only does Union Pacific have a 150-year history supplying the military, 27 percent of its new hires are veterans. The company believes that veterans with experience operating large equipment, working nontraditional schedules and adhering to detailed safety standards make ideal employees.
