At 10:30 am, the Dow fell 0.07 percent to 18,467.75, the broader Standard & Poor's 500 index moved down 0.08 percent to 2,173.71 and the NASDAQ composite index declined 0.05 percent to 5,215.21.

The industries that are still afloat in the market today are:

  • Home Furnishing Stores: This industry gained 2.7 percent by 10:30 am. The top stock within the industry was Williams-Sonoma, Inc. WSM, which gained 4.7 percent. Williams-Sonoma posted in-line earnings for its second quarter, however, the company missed on sales estimates. The company also lowered its annual guidance.
  • Semiconductor- Memory Chips: This industry rose 2.6 percent by 10:30 am ET. The top performer in this industry was Micron Technology, Inc. MU, which gained 5.3 percent. Nomura Securities reiterated a Buy rating and increased price target on Micron from $16 to $20.
  • Long Distance Carriers: The industry gained 1.2 percent by 10:30 am. The top performer in this industry was General Communication, Inc. GNCMA, which gained 1 percent. General Communication shares have dropped 21.40 percent over the past 52 weeks, while the S&P 500 index has gained 16.48 percent in the same period.
  • Silver: This industry moved up 1.1 percent by 10:30 am. The top performer in this industry was Mines Management, Inc. MGN, which rose 5.9 percent.
