AT&T's Ties With Auto Industry Strengthens To Expand Innovative Options For Connected Car Customers

AT&T Inc. T announced it was working with the auto industry to expand innovative options for its connected car customers as the demand for the latest tech is growing due to the increasing customers. According to a recent study done by the company, as well as Ericsson, three out of four consumers considered connected car services as an important feature in their next car purchase. It already has relationships with 19 of the top international car brands.

AT&T's SVP for IoT, Chris Penrose, responded by saying, "It's incredible to think back to 10 years ago when we first started talking with automakers about connecting their cars. Fast forward to today. More and more cars are rolling off the line with embedded connectivity solutions. The interest we are seeing from carmakers and consumers around the world says this revolution is here to stay."

The telecom service provider said it has over eight million cars run on its network and connect over 50 percent of all new connected passenger vehicles in the America at the end of the first quarter. The company also said it was offering wireless connectivity on its 4G LTE network in some Porsche 2017 Macan, Boxster and 911 models3.

AT&T said it was expanding its connected car products, as well as services in line with its strong customer brand. The company said, "Beginning this week, AT&T Unlimited Plan customers may add select connected cars or a ZTE Mobley vehicle Wi-Fi plug-in device to the plan for $40 each month for unlimited data1. Unlimited Plan customers also can get 1GB of data per month for $10 per connected car or ZTE Mobley2."

The stock traded 0.81 percent down on Thursday.
