Handy & Harman Ltd. and SL Industries, Inc. (NYSE MKT: SLI) announced Thursday that they have reached an agreement under which HNH will acquire up to all of the outstanding shares of SLI common stock for $40.00 per share in cash, via a tender offer. The transaction is not subject to any financing contingencies. SL Industries closed at $39.85 on Thursday, up 18%. Verizon to Proceed With Yahoo Bid, Possibly Yahoo Japan Stake The Rumor:
Verizon Communications Inc VZ is ready to make a bid for Yahoo's web business, and also a stake in Yahoo Japan, according to a report from Bloomberg on Thursday. Google GOOGL is said also to be considering a bid, while AT&T Inc T, Comcast Corp CMCSA and Microsoft Corp MSFT have decided not to bid, the sources said. Yahoo closed at $36.17 on Thursday, down 1.34%. DST Systems Looking for Buyer for Customer Communications Unit The Rumor:
DST Systems Inc. DST is considering a sale of its customer communications division, according to sources, as reported by reported by Bloomberg on Thursday. DST is said to have hired a financial adviser to solicit potential bidders for the unit. DST did not respond to a request for comment. DST Systems closed at $52.06 on Thursday, down 12.11%. Hearing Relypsa Working With Advisor to Handle Potential Offers The Rumor:
Shares of Relypsa RLYP surged sharply higher Thursday, following a Reuters report that the company had hired Centerview Partners to handle potential offers. Sources say Relypsa has received a number of approaches from potential buyers. Cantor Fitzgerald, which has a $42 price target on Relypsa, said a deal makes sense. The Street's Adam Feuerstein, heard from an investor that a $38 offer is fair, while Stifel said Relypsa could be valued at $55 per share in a takeout. Relypsa did not respond to a request for comment. Relypsa closed at $23.50 on Thursday, up 62%. Report Dell Looking at Aerohive as Takeover Target The Rumor:
Dell is said to be looking at Aerohive Networks, Inc. HIVE as a potential takeover target, according to a report from CRN on Thursday. The article mentioned that Aerohive could be next to be acquired, following the Brocade BRCD - Ruckus Wireless RKUS deal. Aerohive CFO John Ritchie, in response the CRN report, told Benzinga the company is approached from time to time by potential partners, but he can't comment on status of those discussions. Aerohive closed at $5.56 on Thursday, up 7.5%.
