Some had theorized that after the massive flop that was "Fantastic Four," Twenty-First Century Fox Inc FOXA may be ready to get out of the superhero game and concede its characters back to Disney/Marvel. Now with "Deadpool" breaking records in every direction and rolling to a global tally of over $600 million, that proposal is going out the window.

On Sunday it was revealed Fox has now added two release dates to the calendar for a pair of untitled Marvel based superhero films. While analysts are assuming one is the likely sequel to "Deadpool," the other has created a guessing game.

Among the possible choices for the October 6, 2017 and January 12, 2018 slots are the Channing Tatum-fronted "Gambit" which was supposed to debut on October 6 of this year and "X-Men" spin-offs "X Force" and "New Mutants."

Walt Disney Co DIS controls the rights to the vast majority of Marvel universe, except for the "X-Men," "Fantastic Four" and "Deadpool" characters and brands. Investors will likely get a little more information in the months to come as the studio prepares "X-Men: Apocalypse" for its May 27 release date.
