Worst Performing Industries For January 12, 2016
The Dow rose 0.63 percent to 16,501.40, while the NASDAQ composite index climbed 1.18 percent to 4,692.81. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index gained 0.75 percent to 1,938.12.
The worst performing industries in the market today are:
Silver: This industry declined 3.2 percent by 11:00 am with Endeavour Silver Corp (NYSE: EXK) moving down 6.6 percent. Endeavour Silver reported that it has produced 7,178,666 oz silver and 59,990 oz gold in 2015.
Nonmetallic Mineral Mining: The industry dropped 1.3 percent by 11:00 am. The worst performer in this industry was Alliance Holdings GP, L.P. (NASDAQ: AHGP), which declined 4.1 percent. Alliance Holdings is expected to report Q4 financial results on January 26, 2016.
Gold: This industry slipped 1 percent by 11:00 am. The worst stock within the industry was Comstock Mining Inc (NYSE: LODE), which fell 7 percent. Comstock Mining shares have declined 57.89 percent over the past 52 weeks, while the S&P 500 index has dropped 4.91 percent in the same period.
Industrial Metals & Minerals: This industry fell 0.8 percent by 11:00 am ET. Peabody Energy Corporation (NYSE: BTU) shares dropped 17 percent in today's trading. Jefferies downgraded Peabody Energy from Hold to Underperform.
