Fantasy Sports Sites Under Fire In Illionois

New York's Attorney General Eric Schneiderman declared in November that online fantasy sports sites, like FanDuel and DraftKings, were operating illegally in the state of New York and are to be banned.

On Wednesday, Illinois joined New York in banning its residents from participating in online fantasy sports sites due to the gambling nature of the business.

Illinois' Attorney General Lisa Madigan noted state law defines gambling as a game of chance or skill.

"In this regard, persons whose wagers depend upon how particular, selected athletes perform in actual sporting events stand in no different stead than persons who wager on the outcome of any sporting event in which they are not participants," the USA Today quoted Madigan as stating.

Madigan's office also issued a letter to Fan Duel and DraftKings demanding they change their Terms of Use to include Illinois as a state whose residents are not eligible to participate in contests.
