UPDATE: Japanese Patent Office Rules RealD Patent Valid

In another decisive legal victory for RealD Inc. RLD, the Japanese Patent Office's Patent Reexamination Board ruled RealD's patent valid. A challenge had been filed by MasterImage against one of RealD's Japanese patents protecting its award-winning XL light doubling technology.  Following a trial, the Board upheld the validity of every claim in the patent.  The ruling is the latest victory upholding and affirming RealD patents around the world, and follow six similar wins -- five in the United States and one in Australia.  The patent challenged in Japan, JP5635773, is a member of a patent family that RealD has asserted against MasterImage in a proceeding pending before the US International Trade Commission.  To date, MasterImage has failed to invalidate a single claim of a RealD invention patent.  RealD has a significant patent wall surrounding its light-doubling XL Cinema System with IP filings dating back to 2006 covering architecture and other aspects of the inventive technology. RealD's patents have been consistently affirmed in both examination and re-examination proceedings around the world. Further information concerning RealD patents can be found at www.realdpatents.com.
