Shares of Netflix, Inc. NASDAQ surged higher Tuesday, and never stopped, following an unconfirmed report that Jack Ma and Wasu Media were preparing to take a 20% stake in the movie streaming company. Shares hit an all-time high over the $648 level. Spokespersons for Netflix and Wasu Media were not available for comment on the report. Today is also the Netflix annual shareholder meeting. Netflix shares gained more than 3% Tuesday, to close at $647.15, and rose another $4.00 after-hours. Rumor Receptos Rejected $200/Share AstraZeneca Bid The Rumor:
Shares of Receptos RCPT spiked higher Tuesday, on a report from Proactiv Investors that Receptos rejected a $200 bid from AstraZeneca AZN, while Teva Pharmaceutical Industries TEVA and Gilead Sciences GILD reportedly offered $280. The article states Receptos is willing to accept an offer of $350 per share. Spokepersons for Receptos, AstraZeneca and Proactive Investors did not return calls. Receptos shares 2.5% Tuesday, closing at $160.44. China Mobile Games to be Purchased by Pegasus Investment for $22.00/ADS The Deal:
China Mobile Games and Entertainment Group Limited CMGEannounced Tuesday, that it has entered into a definitive agreement and plan of merger with Pegasus Investment Holdings Limited and Pegasus Merger Sub Limited, under which Pegasus will acquire CMGE for $22.00 per ADS. China Mobile Games Board unanimously approved the merger agreement. China Mobile Games shares gained more than 5% Tuesday, closing at $21.09. Hearing Unconfirmed Market Chatter of Potential Unilever Bid for Colgate-Palmolive The Rumor:
Shares of Colgate-Palmolive Co. CL Tuesday, on unconfirmed market chatter that Unilever plc UL is preparing a bid for the maker of Colgate Toothpaste and Palmolive dish soap. The premium would reportedly more than 20%, according to a source. Spokespersons for Colgate-Palmolive and Unilever did not respond to requests for comment. Colgate-Palmolive shares gained 1% Tuesday, closing at $66.03. Diebold in Talks to Acquire Wincor Nixdorf The Rumor:
Shares of Diebold DBD spiked higher Tuesday, on a report from Reuters that it is in talks to acquire German rival Wincor Nixdorf WNXDY, according to sources. Wincor reportedly has hired Goldman Sachs as an advisor, while Diebold is said to be working with JP Morgan. A Diebold spokesperson declined comment, while a Wincor Nixdorf spokesperson was not available. Diebold shares gained more than 7% Tuesday, closing at $37.83.
