Google's Next Product: GMeet?

A Google+ user, Florian Kiersch, noted on Tuesday a new service offered by Google Inc GOOG GOOGL: GMeet. Although not much is known about it yet, since it is limited to Google employees, it does seem to share plenty of features with other “virtual meetings” platforms.

The concept looks pretty straightforward: users can schedule meetings, and have others join with a single click or touch.

Kiersch leaked screenshots from an Android app only (see below), but claims that there is also a Chrome Extension for GMeet being developed at the time.

There is no official information or release date, but the Google I/O coming soon could provide a better panorama.

Phandroid reported that searches for GMeet and Google Meeting returned code snippets dating as far back as 2011. Nonetheless, “most of the code references things we already have access to in the latest rendition of Hangouts, such as whiteboards, screen sharing, and integration with Google Calendar."
