The Dow gained 0.80% to 17,109.53, while the NASDAQ composite index declined 0.20% to 4,540.36. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 0.16% to 1,985.53.

The industry dropped 3.95% by 11:30 am. The worst performer in this industry was Endeavour Silver (NYSE: EXK), which declined 7.2%. Silver futures fell 4.37% to trade at $16.51 an ounce.

Office Supplies:

This industry fell 3.49% by 11:30 am ET. ACCO Brands (NYSE: ACCO) shares dropped 5.4% in today's trading. KeyBanc downgraded Acco Brands from Buy to Hold.

Semiconductor- Memory Chips:

This industry tumbled 3.14% by 11:30 am. The worst stock within the industry was Spansion (NYSE: CODE), which fell 5.4%. Spansion is expected to announce Q3 financial results on October 30, 2014 after the closing bell.

Photographic Equipment & Supplies:

This industry declined 3.08% by 11:30 am, with GoPro (NASDAQ: GPRO) moving down 2.8%. GoPro is projected to post Q3 earnings at $0.08 per share on revenue of $263.45 million after the closing bell.
