News of Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ: YHOO) getting hacked circulated Monday. Security researcher Anthony Hall claimed that Yahoo confirmed the breach.

According to Hall, hackers had been using the domain to discover servers that were vulnerable to the "Shellshock" or "Bash" bug. Yahoo servers seem to be among those that were vulnerable to attack because Yahoo had been running an out-of-date version of server technology.

Vulnerability to Shellshock was disclosed in September as a threat to Linux and Unix servers.

The bug is especially dangerous because it can allow a hacker to remotely control and issue commands to web servers.

The extent of the breach and the potential for personal information being leaked is not yet known.

Yahoo recently traded at $41.27, up 0.54 percent.
