In a ChannelAdvisor blog, CEO Scot Wingo analyzed September 2013 data for
AmazonAMZN and
eBayEBAY Marketplaces, Search and Comparison Shopping Engines (CSE).
Wingo used non-travel e-commerce as a baseline for e-commerce growth which was reported at 16% in Q2. The same store sales results for September are as follows:
- Amazon reported 26.5%, a 2.5% increase from August (comScore).
- eBay reported 17.4%, a 1.5% decrease from August. Auctions were up 8.4% y/y, fixed-price was up 19.4% y/y, and motors at 14.4%
- Search reported 1.8% y/y growth, a 1.6% increase from August. Traditional AdWords were up 1.8%. PLA/ Google shopping down 6% and search CR's up 1% y/y. AOV was up a larger 17% minimizing the PLA/ GS report. CPC's declined 7% y/y.
- CSE reported 10.6% y/y, a 2.9% increase from August.
Scott Wingo concluded that the SSS data indicated that e-commerce channels were consistent with early third quarter months of July and August. e-commerce was outperformed by marketplaces with search and CSE maintaining a slow growth.
