US Stock Futures Point To Lower Open Monday

US stock futures are higher this morning. Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average surged 35 points to 13,222.00 and S&P 500 index futures rose 3.10 points to 1,423.30. Nasdaq 100 futures climbed 5.75 points to 2,656.25.

US stocks closed higher on Monday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average gaining 0.11% to 13,169.88, the S&P 500 index rising 0.03% to 1,418.55 and the Nasdaq 100 index surging 0.30% to 2,986.96.

October trade figures will be released at 8:30 a.m. ET, while October wholesale trade data will be released at 10 a.m. ET. Federal Reserve policy makers start a two-day meeting today.

Dollar General (NYSE: DG) is projected to report its Q3 earnings at $0.60 per share on revenue of $3.96 billion. Hanwha SolarOne Co (NASDAQ: HSOL) is expected to report a Q3 loss at $0.26 per share on revenue of $160.45 million.

Comverse Technology (NASDAQ: CMVT) is estimated to report its Q3 earnings at $0.12 per share on revenue of $399.77 million. Pantry (NASDAQ: PTRY) is estimated to report its Q4 earnings at $0.54 per share on revenue of $2.19 billion.

The US Treasury Department announced its plans to sell its remaining 16% stake in American International Group (NYSE: AIG).

Texas Instruments (NASDAQ: TXN) lowered its earnings forecast for the fourth quarter.

European markets were higher today. The STOXX Europe 600 Index rose 0.29%, London's FTSE 100 Index gained 0.20%, French CAC 40 Index climbed 0.45% and German DAX 30 index rose 0.55%.

Asian markets ended mixed, with Japan's Nikkei Stock Average falling 0.09%, China's Shanghai Composite dropping 0.44% and Australia's S&P/ASX 200 rising 0.41%. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index rose 0.21% and India's Sensex dropped 0.12%.

Nymex crude-oil futures surged $0.44 to $86.00 a barrel in electronic trade, while gold futures dropped $3.40 to trade at $1,711.00 an ounce.

The dollar index (DXY) fell 0.1% to trade at 80.25.
