Dell is working to introduce the next generation of power edge servers. Dell stated that new social and cloud-based companies are stressing systems and these companies need this new technology. Dell is interested in targeting service businesses, networking, and higher margin storage. Dell stated that the company has an advantage in the server industry because it is introducing and embracing new technologies because Dell does not have any legacy systems to protect. Windows 8 coming out, Dell was asked if the company can see profitable growth in the consumer segment or just manage the situation? Dell retorted that the consumer segment is only $250 billion while the commericial sector is $2.75 trillion. Dell stated that the company was excited for Windows 8, and "will be right there" with the Windows 8 announcement. Apple has been criticized for its dealings with the supplier Foxconn in China. Dell also works with Foxconn, and Michael Dell was asked about his stance towards working conditions. Dell stated that his company has rigious standards for suppliers and does regular, unnanounced audits. Dell stated the company was working to create standards for working conditions and environmental safety. Dell stated that his company has a fantastic tack-record. Dell hoped that no one will get hurt working in Dell factory or a supplier's factory.
