Here's What Apple Products Miss From Steve Jobs

Recent reports have highlighted how Apple Inc. AAPL's attempt to integrate Apple Music and iTunes has backfired with users complaining about the complexity of the app.

Jason Calacanis, Inside.com founder and CEO, was on CNBC to talk about this and how Apple products nowadays are lacking the finish they used to have earlier.

Huge Mistake

"I think what we're seeing is Apple made a huge mistake by trying to take a new service -- Apple Music that was supposed to compete with Spotify -- and jamming it into the old service iTunes, which is a completely different paradigm," Calacanis began. "Owning songs, organizing your collection, ripping your CDs and then Spotify and Rhapsody streaming music, right?"

"And so, by putting this brand new very polished service into the old app, it basically created massive confusion. People can't find the product, and they should have done a wholesale rebuild of the product."

Apple Watch Isn't A Success Too

Calacanis continued, "And this is coming on the heels of the Apple Watch being not a must buy, to put it kindly. Most of the people who have the Apple Watch that I talk to are not going back for it when they forget it at home and they're not using it."

"So you have two product launches back-to-back same year, both were supposed to be super promising, both are super promising. Both have 80 percent - 90 percent dialed in to be a great product and the last 10-20 percent of polish is missing."

Steve Jobs' Expertise Is Missing

"I was at dinner last night with a very high profile public and private investor and he just said, listen, without Steve Jobs, without having a product-centric CEO, their products are just not going to have that polish and refinement.

"I think this might be the actual manifestation of it. We're seeing products come out from Apple that just don't have that 10 percent - 20 percent fit and finish that they used to have."
