Hyundai Motor Co HYMTF and Kia Corporation penned a deal at the Mabuk Eco-Friendly R&D Center, Korea, with W. L. Gore & Associates for co-development of polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) for hydrogen fuel cell systems.
Through the collaboration, Hyundai targets to create an advanced PEM for next-generation fuel cell electric commercial vehicles.
"We are entering the next chapter of our partnership with Gore. By leveraging the 15 years of collaboration, we will acquire advanced fuel cell technology and lead the fuel cell electric vehicle market, accelerating the movement towards a sustainable future," said said Chang Hwan Kim, Head of Battery Development and Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Development at Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Corporation.
Over the last 25 years, Hyundai has focused on hydrogen technology and expanded its fuel cell business globally across various sectors, such as passenger and commercial vehicles, marine vessels, aerospace applications, and power generation.

This week, Hyundai Motor and Kia also inked a Car-to-Home and Home-to-Car service partnership with Samsung Electronics Co Ltd SSNLF to boost the connectivity between residential and mobility spaces.
As per the deal, Hyundai and Kia car owners can remotely control digital appliances via touch and voice commands through their vehicles' in-car infotainment systems.
Recently, Hyundai disclosed a total global sales increase of 6.9% at 4.216 million vehicles in 2023.
