H&M Investigates Labor Wage Issues In Myanmar-Based Factory: Report

Hennes & Mauritz AB HNNMY HMRZF reportedly investigates 20 alleged labor exploitation incidents at its Myanmar-based garment-supplying factories.

The Swedish fashion retail behemoth is "deeply concerned" by the latest developments in Myanmar, Reuters reported citing a statement from the company.

A Britain-based human rights advocacy group followed 156 cases of likely worker abuses in Myanmar garment factories from February 2022 to February 2023, the report added.

Wage reduction and wage theft were the reported allegations, according to a report by the non-governmental organization, the Business and Human Rights Resource Centre (BHRRC), which Reuters noted.

"All the cases raised in the report by BHRRC are being followed up and where needed remediated through our local team on the ground and in close cooperation with relevant stakeholders," the report quoted H&M's statement.

Amid the pressure, H&M sees increased challenges in conducting operations according to its standards and requirements, Reuters added.
