Bitcoin, Ethereum Edge Lower Following Jobless Claims Data; GMX, Astar Among Top Losers

Bitcoin BTC/USD moved lower, but the cryptocurrency prices remained above the $27,000 level on Thursday.

Ethereum ETH/USD, also recorded losses, but traded above the key $1,700 mark this morning.

U.S. initial jobless claims fell by 4,000 from the previous week’s revised reading to 228,000 on the week ending Aug. 26, compared to market estimates of 235,000. Core PCE prices in the U.S. rose by 0.2% month-over-month in July.

Maker (MKR) was the top gainer over the prior 24 hours, while GMX GMX/USD turned out to be the biggest loser.

At the time of writing, the global crypto market cap fell to $1.08 trillion, recording a 24-hour decline of 0.8%. BTC was trading lower by 0.8% at $27,216 while ETH fell by around 0.9% to $1,704 on Thursday.
