Alert: California Recalls Cannabis Pre-Rolls Over Pesticide Concerns

The California Department of Cannabis Control (DCC) has recalled Fog City Farms Shark Bites infused pre-rolls due to the presence of spiromesifen, cadusafos and cyphenothrin pesticides.

Spiromesifen, an insecticide, was detected, alongside two non-mandatory pesticides, reported KRON 4. Consumers with pre-rolls bearing the UID number 1A406030000465D000001314 should dispose of them or return them to the point of purchase. The DCC advises seeking immediate medical attention if any adverse reactions occur.

18 Labs Approved for Cannabis Flower Testing After THC Inflation Scams

Six additional licensed California cannabis labs have gained compliance with new state regulations, enabling them to resume testing flower and non-infused pre-rolls. This announcement by the Department of Cannabis Control (DCC) follows a recent update where only 12 labs had initially submitted compliance paperwork for standardized THC testing methods, noted MJBizDaily.

Now, a total of 18 California labs are approved to test cannabis flower. Labs not on the approved list may continue testing edibles and concentrates, but DCC warns that testing flower without approval may lead to enforcement action. The move aims to address THC potency inflation concerns in the legal cannabis industry.

Governor Taps Cannabis Taxes to Solve Budget Deficit

Governor Gavin Newsom (D) has proposed using $100 million in marijuana tax revenue to address the state’s $37.9 billion budget deficit. The funds would be borrowed from a cannabis tax fund designated for law enforcement and public safety initiatives, with plans for repayment in a future fiscal year. While addressing the deficit, the governor also emphasizes efforts to “strengthen” the state’s cannabis industry through tax reforms, fee relief, equity programs and support for local licensing and regulation.

Additionally, a significant portion of marijuana revenue is earmarked for education, youth substance use disorders prevention, environmental remediation, and public safety initiatives, according to Marijuana Moment. State legislators are also exploring drug policy reforms, including cannabis cafes and access to psychedelics.
